Office of Development and Alumni Affairs

IISc attracts and fosters the very best faculty members in all science and engineering disciplines. To become one of the top 50 universities in global rankings, IISc plans to institute several prestigious Chair Professorships and Visiting Chair Professorships to support outstanding faculty members. Each Chair Professorship would be awarded to a single accomplished senior or mid-level faculty member from IISc.

IISc has a number of distinguished Visiting Chair Professorships to facilitate short-term visits by accomplished researchers in various disciplines. The Chairs provide for airfare, local hospitality, and an honorarium. The recipients of the Chair positions participate in various academic and research activities and interact with faculty and students in IISc. On-campus accommodation for a visitor is provided, subject to availability, in IISc’s Centenary Visitor’s House (CVH), which has well-furnished apartments suitable for comfortable living with a small family. An academic department in IISc will serve as a host to the Visitor to coordinate the academic and research activities.

Your contributions to these Chairs would help us unleash our true potential and reach greater heights of accomplishment. Each Chair/Visiting Chair Professorship will be associated with the contributor/organization for perpetuity.

There are two levels of Chair Professorships:

  1. Professor level: One-time contribution of Rs. 3.15 crores per Chair (Rs. 3 crores for the endowment and Rs. 0.15 crores for institute administrative overheads)
  2. Associate Professor level: One-time contribution of Rs. 2.1 crores per Chair (Rs. 2 crores for the endowment and Rs. 0.1 crores for institute administrative overheads)
