77The Department of Chemical Engineering has been running an active summer internship program (May – July) since 2010. The program attracts about 20-25 undergraduates from across the country, selected through an open application process, who spend 6 weeks in the department. Through a series of lectures, laboratory visits, and short projects, the students are exposed to modern aspects of chemical engineering research and training.  The internship exposes students to chemical engineering research at IISc, through close interaction with  faculty and students. The department envisions that the summer internship plays a critical role in our outreach activity to seek out talented undergraduates and expose them to chemical engineering research. Several summer interns have returned to IISc, to pursue either a Masters or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering.

This fund will provide a stipend for the summer intern, to cover  travel and local accommodation during their internship.  We would like to restructure and expand the summer internship to attract about 40-45 summer interns to this program.

We invite contributions from alumni and well-wishers towards this initiative.
