Friends and family of Prof. Dr. Rinti Banerjee have established an endowment for conducting lectures at the department of Bioengineering, in memory of late Prof. Dr. Rinti Banerjee (Professor of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Bombay).

These lectures are on topics relevant to Bioengineering including translation of healthcare research and technologies to commercialized products/services/platforms with the aim of lowering cost and improving access to healthcare for masses in India. This lecture is to be delivered by a prominent scientist (preferably woman with MBBS or equivalent medical degree) in any area of biomedical engineering/bionan of abrication/biomaterials, who has made significant advances through basic and/or applied research. To the extent possible, the lecture would be organized on late Prof Dr Rinti Banerjee’s birthday, April 19 of the year it is conducted.

Prof. Rinti Banerjee passed away on 8th July 2021 due to post-COVID complications. She was a professor in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. She did her MBBS from BJ Medical College Pune and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at IIT Bombay. She was then a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, USA and then returned to IIT Bombay for a faculty position. Her translational work in biomaterials, drug delivery, nanomedicine and point-of-care diagnostics has created a significant impact. Read more about her here.
