The present old classrooms in the lecture hall complex at IISc are in regular use for the courses conducted by CCE for Proficience, QIP and industry-sponsored programs. These old classrooms are used on a daily basis and will benefit 2500 students/faculty/professionals per year.
In addition, these classrooms are also used for UG classes under the Bachelor of Science program at IISc, as well as for other academic programs required by the institute.
There is an urgent need for renovating these classrooms to be in line with the digital education system followed globally.
The renovation of the classrooms will cover up-gradation of the facility, provision of audiovisual systems, internet access and other facilities to transform them into “digital class rooms”.
Target: Rs. 2,10,00,000. A small percentage (~5%) of each contribution may be used for administrative/overhead expenses.

Centre for Continuing Education (CCE):
The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) was established at IISc in 1975-76 to meet the primary objectives of providing continuing education to the incumbents of Universities, Research & Development (R&D) Laboratories and Industries, by utilizing the resources of institute. The courses are suitably designed to meet the requirements of different target groups, ranging from high school teachers to research scientists/engineers. The courses aim at enabling graduate engineers/scientists to grow into competent and creative managers of technology-intensive and data-driven organizations. CCE has rapidly grown in the range and depth of its activities since its founding. Over 40,000 scientists/engineers have been trained by the CCE so far.
The current courses being offered by the Centre for Continuing Education are as follows:
- Quality Improvement Program (QIP): This program was started in 1974 for faculty members from engineering colleges all over India. A typical course is for 5 days a week. These courses are conducted throughout the year, with a minimum 2 to 3 courses conducted per month. Over 4600 faculty members have undergone training through these courses.
- Industry Sponsored Courses: This program was started in 1974. These short term courses are aimed at R&D and industry professionals, to upgrade their knowledge and skills. These courses are of short duration (~1 week) and are offered throughout the year. So far, about 1480 courses have been offered.
- Proficience Courses: This pioneering program was started in 1980. Certificate courses of one semester duration are offered in the evenings. These are attended by working professionals besides fresh graduate students to upgrade their skills and knowledge. So far 1643 courses have been offered and about 25000 professionals have benefited from them. The alumni of this program have reached leadership positions in Indian industry. The courses cover all areas of topical interest including data analytics, AI, mobility, etc.
- NPTEL Courses: Funded by the MHRD, this is a joint initiative of IISc and seven IITs. The program provides curriculum-based video courses and web-based e-courses targeting students and faculty of institutions offering UG engineering programs. CCE issues certificates on behalf of NPTEL for the courses conducted at IISc through NPTEL.
- GIAN Courses: CCE also conducts GIAN courses. GIAN program aims at tapping the talent pool of scientists and entrepreneurs to engage with the institutes of higher education in India to augment the country’s existing academic resources, accelerate the pace of quality reforms, and further strengthen India’s scientific and technological capabilities.
