About
The Prof MN Murthy Medal has been instituted by Prof Siddanagouda Patil, Professor of Computer Science, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore, in honour of Prof MN Murthy, former Professor of Computer Science and Dean of Engineering at IISc, as a tribute to his academic legacy and mentorship.
The endowment will fund the medal in perpetuity and will be awarded during the BTech convocation ceremony every year.
Eligibility
- Awarded to a student pursuing in the BTech program (Mathematics and Computing) for their academic excellence.
- This medal will be awarded to the student scoring the highest CGPA in the program, as per Institute norms.

Prof M Narasimha Murty
Musti Narasimha Murty, an Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore veteran, was born on 21-12-1954 in Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh. He completed a BE Course in Electrical Engineering, ME Course in Electronics Engineering, and Ph. D. in Computer Science Engineering (1982) at Indian Institute Of Science, Bangalore. He joined the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc) Dept of Computer Science. He is one among the pioneers during 1975-85 core Computer Science development at CSA in Pattern recognition. He contributed teaching, researching nearly 100 research papers, several books and book chapters, with Guided 22 PhD, 13 ME, Scholars. He confirmed Awards and Honors in KDD, ACM, INAE, IASI, NASI. He held the position viz, HOD of CSA, Dean of Engineering. He is associated with many remarkable researches.
