Giving to IISc

IISc invites partnerships with organizations and individuals interested in investing in the Institute’s mission to foster innovative research and education initiatives that benefit society.

  • All contributions will be acknowledged appropriately and the necessary receipts and documents for tax purposes will be sent to the contributors within the deadlines for tax purposes as required.
  • Periodic reports will also be sent to the contributors as required.

100% tax relief under Section 80G(2)(a)(iii).

Cheque/DD:
Contributions can be made via cheque/DD with a covering letter/email stating the name and details of the project. Cheque/DD can be drawn in the name of “The Registrar, Indian Institute of Science” and sent to: Chairman, Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore – 560012, Karnataka. Bank transfer:
Please get in touch with us at office.odaa@iisc.ac.in for details of IISc bank account for banks transfers as and when appropriate. In the case of wire transfer, a follow-up email stating the purpose, contact details, transaction reference number and any other necessary details in order would be required for administrative purposes.

For alumni doing the transfers please write to alumniaffairs.odaa@iisc.ac.in to inform us of the same and for tax exemption receipt.

Tax Benefits

IISc has been recognized by the Govt. of India as an institution of national eminence, a Deemed University, and one of the premier research institutions in India. In light of this, the following exemptions have been allowed under various Rules and Acts:

  • Contributions made towards scientific research to the Indian Institute of Science are exempted under Section 35(1)(ii) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  • Donors in India can avail 100% tax exemption under Section 80G (2)(a)(iiif) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  • The Institute is exempted from the provision of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976 as per Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs letter No.II/21022/14(3)94-FCRA.I, dated 23rd December 1994.

Benefactors in the US

The IISc Foundation has been established in the USA to enhance global excellence in engineering education and research of IISc, Bangalore. It is an IRS-approved tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit entity established and managed by volunteer IISc alumni to raise endowment funds for IISc Bangalore from alumni, corporations, and foundations in the United States.

Projects

The Institute has identified several areas and projects that could benefit greatly from corporate, alumni and philanthropic support.

  • There is no minimum limit for contributions to any project. We also welcome partial funding and joint funding from multiple contributors.
  • A small percentage (~5%) of each contribution may be used for administrative/overhead expenses.

CSR Funding for Corporates

We invite corporates to support projects under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR Rules, 2014). We would be happy to discuss and explore these projects and partnerships in detail. ODAA will take responsibility for preparation and submission of necessary documents required by your organization’s CSR Committees.
