Endowed Faculty Positions
About
IISc attracts and nurtures the finest faculty members in all disciplines of science and engineering, and is starting a medical school. To elevate IISc into the league of top global universities, we are instituting several Chair Professorships, Visiting Chair Professorships and Young Investigator Positions. These endowed positions will support exceptional faculty members with a top up salary and unrestricted grant.
These Chair/Visiting Chair Professorship will be named after the contributor for perpetuity, and operated as per terms in the agreement.
Incumbents are selected by a committee set up by the Director.
Chair Professorship
Professor level: One-time contribution of Rs. 3.15 crores per position (Rs. 3 crores for the endowment and Rs. 0.15 crores for institute administrative overheads)
Associate Professor level: One-time contribution of Rs. 2.1 crores per position (Rs. 2 crores for the endowment and Rs. 0.1 crores for institute administrative overheads)
On 22 June 2024, the Council of the Institute has approved enhanced endowment amounts required for establishing these positions at the Medical School. Please visit this page for the applicable donation amounts.
Young Investigator Positions
To encourage bright young faculty to pursue cutting-edge research, the Institute awards several named Young Investigator positions at the level of Assistant Professor. This would supplement the salary of the faculty member, enabling them to acquire world-class research infrastructure and pursue revolutionary research.
One-time contribution of Rs. 1.05 crores per position (Rs. 1 crore for the endowment and Rs. 0.05 crores for institute administrative overheads). Each Position will be named after the Contributor for perpetuity.
Visiting Chair Professorship
IISc establishes Visiting Chair Professorships in all areas of Science and Engineering. Similar positions can also be established in the IISc Medical School.
These endowed positions will support exceptional visiting scientists/academicians to travel to the Institute campus, engage with the faculty members and students over mutually agreed durations.
They are also invited to present a seminar on a relevant topic. Apart from round trip travel expenses, campus accommodation and daily allowance are provided to these visitors.
Funds required are similar to resident Chair Professorships. These positions will be named after the contributor for perpetuity, and operated as per terms in the agreement.
